2024 Scholarship Information
WyGEO is pleased to announce that we are offering two $1500 scholarships to deserving college students this year: One to a half-time or full-time undergraduate student and one to a half-time or full-time graduate student. These academic scholarships are designed for students exhibiting academic excellence in geospatial technologies fields: Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing, Global Positioning Systems (GPS), or related disciplines. The scholarship awards can be used to offset any costs the student may incur while pursuing their college credentials, including tuition, books, data, field work or travel costs to attend a WyGEO-sponsored gathering.
To qualify for a scholarship, you must be:
- A Wyoming or non-Wyoming resident enrolled at an accredited Wyoming 2-year or 4-year college/university.
- An undergraduate student enrolled half-time or full-time in an associate or bachelor's degree program with GIS as a major emphasis of study or a graduate student enrolled half-time or full-time in a graduate degree or certificate program with an emphasis on GIS.
To apply for a scholarship, you must submit an application package which includes the following. Please ensure that the file names of all attached files contain your last name.
- A completed 2-page application form available here.
- Transcripts indicating your current grade point average (GPA). Unofficial copies are acceptable.
- Undergraduate applicants - A story map presentation about your project with an interactive map(s) that allow a user to zoom, pan, and identify features with clean, understandable popups
- Graduate applicants – A story map as described above. In addition to the story map described above, compose a short essay describing your project (minimum 3 pages), plus an associated graphic demonstrating geospatial analysis related to your map.
- Two letters of recommendation. At least one letter must be from a professor (graduate or undergraduate) or high school teacher (undergraduate). Letters of recommendation should be sent directly by reference to scholarships@wygeo.org, with the first and last name of the student in the subject field.
